After Dark, Coronado Comes Alive Here

A moody, atmospheric bar and restaurant on Orange Ave where the island's nightlife finds its edge.

About Us

The name says it: Night Hawk is built for the hours when most restaurants have already called it a night. Tucked inside the Baby Grand Coronado on Orange Ave, this spot leans hard into its nighttime identity, low light, bold design choices, and a room that makes you want to stay for one more round.

The atmosphere is genuinely the draw here, and the team knows it. Guests walking in as walk-ins have found a staff willing to seat them without a reservation, a small but meaningful thing on an island where hospitality can feel transactional. The bar setup is fun and well-conceived, the kind of space that photographs well but also just feels good to sit in.

The kitchen is still finding its footing, and that honesty is part of the story right now. The vegetable-forward plates have shown real promise, and as the menu continues to evolve heading into summer, Night Hawk has the bones to become something Coronado genuinely brags about.

What We Offer

Night Hawk operates as both a bar and a full-service restaurant, meaning you can anchor your whole evening here or drop in for a late drink without committing to a full meal. The cocktail program fits the after-dark aesthetic: considered, a little dramatic, worth ordering more than one.

The food menu spans shareable plates and larger entrees, with vegetable dishes currently leading the pack in execution. Coronado locals and hotel guests alike use this space for date nights, small group gatherings, and spontaneous island evenings that need a proper setting.

Walk-ins are welcomed when space allows, making Night Hawk one of the more accessible elevated venues on the island. Reservations are recommended on weekends, but the team has shown a willingness to work with guests who show up on a whim.

Why Choose Us

One of Coronado's most visually striking dining rooms, designed to feel like the night itself.
Walk-ins accepted when available, a rarity among upscale island restaurants on Orange Ave.
Bar-first mentality means the cocktail program gets serious attention, not an afterthought.
Part of the Baby Grand Coronado property, bringing boutique hotel polish to every interaction.
Vegetable-forward plates offer genuinely good options for non-meat eaters dining on the island.
An evolving menu means early guests are shaping what Night Hawk becomes, not just visiting it.

"Atmosphere is excellent but that's really all that's going for it. Is the chef vegan? The vegetable dishes were decent but all of the meat dishes were bland, over cooked, or straight up scorched in lava. The steak skewer was so dry I had to spit it out to check I didn't accidentally eat a piece of leather. Service was slow even though we showed up to our reservation in time. Water carafe looked cool. Even the drinks were not up to typical Consortium Holdings standards. Do not recommend."

"Come on, it’s CH — of course the aesthetic is gorgeous and the atmosphere is stunning. But this restaurant definitely has a few kinks to work out before summer. Our server was honest about items that weren’t available and did his best throughout the night. Unfortunately, for a dinner that was nearly $300, the experience itself was disappointing. To start, we weren’t seated until about 15 minutes after our reservation time. They initially tried to place us at the booth directly in front where everyone was taking photos. Thankfully we were able to switch tables, but then were squeezed between two couples despite there being many open tables throughout the restaurant. I understand restaurant zoning and server sections, but it still felt frustrating and unnecessary. When our Slovakia platter came out, everything was different temperatures — the bread was piping hot while the vegetables were cold. The beef was unusually chewy (not the norm), so we switched to the pork tenderloin, which was also chewy and extremely over-seasoned. Service timing was the biggest issue. Our entire dinner — a Mezzy platter, Slovakia platter, and dessert — took over 3 hours. There was over an hour and a half between the appetizer and dinner platter alone. Drinks sat empty for long periods and we didn’t feel checked on very often. Then dessert came… without spoons. We jokingly timed it, and it took over 6 minutes to get spoons while our ice cream melted. The table next to us had the exact same issue, so we ended up giving them our extra spoons because their server forgot theirs too. The restaurant has a ton of potential, but right now the service and kitchen timing need serious refinement to match the price point and atmosphere."

"Tried Nighthawk Bar as a walk-in and the atmosphere was definitely great — fun vibe and nice setup. The service was decent and I do appreciate that they were willing to take us in without reservations. That said, the wait process was frustrating. We arrived around 11:45am and weren’t seated until about 3:45pm. After waiting over an hour, I followed up for an update and was told there were still a lot of people ahead of us, but no real estimate on timing. Food unfortunately didn’t live up to the hype either. If you plan on going, I’d strongly recommend making reservations because walk-ins should expect a very long wait."

"This place is so sick. It’s tropical Lafayette - the designer knows what the heck they’re doing. That an absolutely phenomenal bar, definitely a place I’ll bring every visitor to SD. Antonio and Asia were incredible - so friendly, nice, knowledgeable. Honestly could not recommend more."

"There’s a reason we’ve already been back twice in one week to Night Hawk. Our first visit was on 5/19, and before we even left, we knew this place had something special going on. By 5/24, we were back again, somehow feeling like regulars already. The atmosphere is unlike anything else on Coronado right now. It feels like stepping into another world… tropical, moody, romantic, a little mysterious, and somehow both upscale and relaxed at the same time. The fire torches, glowing lamps, statues, hidden corners, and open-air Mediterranean vibe make the whole experience feel cinematic. You don’t just eat here, you hang out here. Food-wise, the hummus is ridiculously good. Smooth, fresh, addictive. The tzatziki dip was another standout and honestly one of the best we’ve had anywhere. We’ve now tried all the skewers — chicken, shrimp, and tenderloin — and every single one was excellent. Simple in the best way: smoky, flavorful, cooked perfectly, and made for sharing around the table. The cocktails were great too, but what really pushed this place over the top for us was the hospitality. Summer and Mitz were awesome hosts both visits, and Summer especially went above and beyond squeezing us in for a second reservation when the place was packed. That kind of effort matters, and it made the whole experience feel personal instead of transactional. Coronado has no shortage of beautiful restaurants, but Night Hawk feels different. It already has that “how did this place become our spot so fast?” energy. We’ll definitely be back again soon."
